General FAQs

Q1: What is the pitch and pin range of M7060 series IDC connector?

A: It is 3.96mm pitch feed-through IDC connector, supporting 2 to 24 pins for selection.

Q2: What wire gauges are compatible with this connector?

A: It fits AWG18, AWG20, AWG22 and AWG24 wires, corresponding to different housing color codes.

Q3: What are the electrical ratings and working temperature?

A: Rated current: 5A AC/DC; Rated voltage: 600V AC/DC; Operating temperature: -25°C to +85°C.

Q4: What are the materials and flame retardant grade?

A: Housing: Nylon66, UL94V-2; Terminal: Phosphor bronze with tin plating or gold plating.

Q5: What are the functions of polarizing tabs and locking ramp?

A: Polarizing tabs prevent reverse insertion; locking ramp ensures firm mating and avoids loose connection.

Q6: Is this a straight-through connector? What is the orientation?

A: Yes, it is a 180° feed-through IDC connector for indirect mating.

Q7: What applications is M7060-N-C-R suitable for?

A: Mainly used for wire termination of industrial control equipment, household appliances and general electronic products.

Q8: Can you provide customized pin counts or colors?

A: Standard pins range from 2 to 24, and multiple standard colors are available. Contact us for non-standard customization.

Technical FAQs

Q1: Why are IDC connectors designed into two versions: with polarizing tabs and without polarizing tabs?

A: The two structures are developed to match different anti-mismating requirements, assembly efficiency, cost and product layout limits:

1. With polarizing tabs: Asymmetric plastic protrusions integrated on the housing create mechanical interference. The connector can only mate in one correct orientation, physically blocking reverse insertion or 180° flipped mating, eliminating human assembly errors and signal/power short-circuit risks caused by wrong wiring.

2. Without polarizing tabs: Simplified housing without anti-reverse protrusions. It has smaller overall width, lower plastic material cost and smoother insertion resistance. It relies on manual marking or production SOP to avoid mis-mating, for low-risk static application scenarios.

Q2: What are the application differences between IDC with polarizing tabs and without polarizing tabs?

IDC with polarizing tabs (anti-reverse)

  1. Core advantage: Physical anti-misinsertion, zero risk of reverse mating, no dependence on operator judgment; suitable for blind assembly, automated production lines, multi-connector mixed wiring boards.

  2. Typical applications: Industrial control mainboards, power drive modules, medical equipment, new energy controllers, portable test instruments, multi-signal integrated circuit boards with multiple identical connectors.

  3. Risk scenario: Reverse insertion will cause short circuit, burnt PCB, signal failure or equipment safety hazards.

IDC without polarizing tabs

  1. Core advantage: Narrower body for compact internal layout, lower unit cost, lighter insertion force, easier high-speed automated crimping.

  2. Typical applications: Single-circuit household appliances, LED lighting panels, small digital accessories, simple fixed internal wiring with only one connector per board.

  3. Risk scenario: Only applicable if wrong mating will not cause severe damage; operators can clearly identify pin sequence via wire color or silk screen marking.

  • Q3: How to select between with/without polarizing tabs IDC connectors?

Judge by 4 core dimensions:

Risk of reverse insertion failure

Reverse mating leads to short circuit, burnt components, equipment breakdown → Choose with polarizing tabs

  • Wrong plug-in only causes no signal output without hardware damage → Can select without polarizing tabs

Number of connectors on one PCB

  • Multiple identical IDC connectors arranged densely on one board → Must use polarizing tabs to distinguish circuits

  • Only one connector mounted per circuit board → Without polarizing tabs is acceptable

Assembly production mode

  • Mass automatic assembly, blind mating, high-speed harness production line → With polarizing tabs (avoids mass defective products)

  • Manual small-batch assembly with clear wire color coding/silk screen labels → Without polarizing tabs

Product space & cost constraints

  • Strict width limit on internal casing, tight BOM cost budget → Without polarizing tabs

  • Industrial high-reliability products, long service life requirement, cost tolerance → With polarizing tabs

Q4: Does polarizing tab design affect compatibility with matching PCB headers?

A: No. M7060 series IDC with/without polarizing tabs share identical pitch, pin layout and internal terminal dimensions, fully compatible with M3965 series matching PCB headers. Only the outer housing anti-reverse protrusion structure differs; electrical performance and mating dimensional consistency remain unchanged.
Q5: Can operators still plug in reversely for IDC with polarizing tabs?
A: Impossible. The asymmetric polarizing tab will collide with the edge of shrouded PCB headers when flipped 180°, forming physical lock and preventing full insertion, which fundamentally eliminates reverse wiring defects.
Q6: Is it necessary to choose polarizing tabs if I only have one connector on the board?
A: Depends on your product safety standard. If your product involves power circuit or high-value control board, polarizing tabs are still recommended to avoid human operation errors during after-sales maintenance; for low-voltage simple signal circuits with no safety risks, non-polarizing version is acceptable to save cost.
