General FAQs

Q1: What is the pitch and pin range of M7060 series IDC connector?

A: It is 3.96mm pitch feed-through IDC connector, supporting 2 to 24 pins for selection.

Q2: What wire gauges are compatible with this connector?

A: It fits AWG18, AWG20, AWG22 and AWG24 wires, corresponding to different housing color codes.

Q3: What are the electrical ratings and working temperature?

A: Rated current: 5A AC/DC; Rated voltage: 600V AC/DC; Operating temperature: -25°C to +85°C.

Q4: What are the materials and flame retardant grade?

A: Housing: Nylon66, UL94V-2; Terminal: Phosphor bronze with tin plating or gold plating.

Q5: What are the functions of polarizing tabs and locking ramp?

A: Polarizing tabs prevent reverse insertion; locking ramp ensures firm mating and avoids loose connection.

Q6: Is this a straight-through connector? What is the orientation?

A: Yes, it is a 90° closed end IDC connector for indirect mating.

Q7: Can you provide customized pin counts or colors?

A: Standard pins range from 2 to 24, and multiple standard colors are available. Contact us for non-standard customization.

Technical FAQs

Q1: Why do IDC connectors have closed-end and feed-through two structural versions?

A: The two designs are developed for completely different wiring layout demands, wire routing modes and daisy-chain circuit requirements:

Closed-end IDC (90° closed end M7060R series)

One end of the housing is fully sealed with no through wire channel. Wires can only be terminated and fixed at the cable end; the wire cannot pass through the entire connector housing. It is designed for independent wire-to-board terminal wiring of a single PCB.

Feed-through IDC (180° feed through M7060 series)

Through open channel runs through the whole housing. Wires can penetrate from one side to the other, supporting wire running through the connector body. It enables daisy-chain series connection between multiple PCBs, realizing power/signal transmission cascading board by board.

Q2: What are the practical application differences between closed-end and feed-through IDC connectors?

Closed-end IDC (M7060R 90° )

⒈Core features

  • Fully enclosed rear housing, wire only connects at the terminal end, better strain relief & dust resistance;

  • Right-angle cable outlet saves vertical PCB internal space, neat wiring layout inside narrow equipment casings;

  • No wire overhang on the rear side, avoids short-circuit risk caused by exposed loose wires.

⒉Typical applications

  • Single independent control PCB without cascading wiring: household appliances, small drive modules, LED single lamp boards, portable testing instruments, medical control panels with independent wiring.

  • Suitable environment: Device internal space is narrow, cable needs horizontal 90° turn after connecting PCB; each PCB only receives incoming wires without outputting to another circuit board.

Feed-through IDC (M7060 180° straight feed through)

⒈Core features

  • Full through wire passage, one wire runs through the connector to realize "input-output" cascade;

  • Supports daisy chain wiring, one group of wires sequentially connects multiple PCBs, reduces harness quantity and assembly cost;

  • Straight 180° cable outlet, wires go straight forward after mating with PCB header.

⒉Typical applications

  • Multi-board series equipment: HVAC control systems, multi-layer industrial control cabinets, multi-group LED light string modules, security alarm control panels, power distribution equipment requiring cascaded power supply between multiple boards.

  • Suitable environment: Multiple PCBs need shared power or signal loops; wiring needs to pass through one connector to connect the next circuit board, requiring simplified harness layout.

Q3: How to select between closed-end and feed-through IDC connectors for your project?

Judge according to 4 core design dimensions:

⒈PCB cascading wiring demand

Only one single PCB, no wire needs to connect to another board → Select closed-end IDC

Multiple PCBs require daisy-chain series power/signal transmission → Select feed-through IDC

⒉Internal space & wire routing angle

Limited vertical height above PCB, wires need horizontal side exit (90° turn) → Closed-end right-angle version

Enough straight space behind PCB, wires run straight forward along the board plane → Feed-through straight version

⒊Wiring neatness & dust protection requirement

Sealed housing needed to block dust, avoid exposed wire tails causing short circuit → Closed-end IDC

Prioritize simplified harness, reduce total wire quantity for multi-board cascade → Feed-through IDC

⒋After-sales maintenance & replacement convenience

Each PCB wiring is independent, easy to replace single board without affecting other circuits → Closed-end IDC

⒌Unified power input at the first board, power all subsequent boards via feed-through daisy chain → Feed-through IDC

Q4: Do closed-end and feed-through IDC share compatible PCB headers?

A: Yes. M7060 feed-through and M7060R closed-end IDC connectors of the same pitch/pin count match the identical M3965 series shrouded PCB headers. Only the rear wire channel and cable outlet angle differ; pitch, pin layout and mating dimension are fully consistent.

Q5: Can feed-through IDC be used as closed-end terminal wiring?

A: It is technically feasible but not recommended. The open through channel will expose wire tails at the rear of the connector, increasing dust accumulation and vibration pull-off risks. Closed-end’s fully sealed housing provides better mechanical protection for terminal wiring scenarios.

Q6: Can closed-end IDC realize multi-board daisy chain connection?

A: No. The rear end is fully blocked without through wire channel. If you need to connect multiple PCBs, you have to arrange separate incoming wires for each board, which increases harness cost and assembly workload.
